DETROIT (WKZO) -- Police and area residents want to know who hung a sign on the crumbling Packard Plant in Detroit with a German phrase that was also once posted over the entrance to the Nazi death camp, Auschwitz.
The sign, which translated means "Work makes you free," is prompting outrage and disgust from people who pass. Randy Wilcox of Harper Woods took it upon himself to take it down Tuesday afternoon.
It is not known whether the sign was meant as an anti-semitic statement or if it was meant as commentary about the decline of the region's manufacturing sector.
