Michigan State hung on to beat Illinois 80-75 last night at the Breslin Center. Keith Appling scored 24 points to lead the 13th-ranked Spartans, and Gary Harris and Denzel Valentine each ended the game with 14. MSU, 18-and-4 overall, 7-and-2 in Big Ten play, hosts Minnesota next Wednesday.
