DETROIT (WKZO) -- Detroit native and Grammy Winning session drummer Ricky Lawson died earlier this week after being hospitalized earlier this month with a brain aneurysm.

The 59-year-old Lawson became disoriented during a performance at a jazz club on December 13th and was put on life support.  He died on Monday.  The Detroiter played on recordings for such artists as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins and Steely Dan.

The president of the Pearl brand of drums, which Lawson endorsed, said he was one of the best drummers of our generation.
