Michigan official encourage home radon testing

LANSING (WKZO) -- State officials are encouraging Michiganders to get their homes tested for radon next month.  January is Radon Action Month in the state, as the gas is believed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and the leading cause for nonsmokers.

Estimates from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency show more than 600 people in Michigan die each year from radon exposure.  It is a colorless, tasteless, odorless and radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil and rock and can get trapped under the foundation of a home.
