Ann Arbor City Council calls for state to repeal "stand your ground" law

ANN ARBOR (WKZO) -- The City Council of Ann Arbor is asking state legislators to repeal Michigan's Stand Your Ground law in the wake of the acquittal of George Zimmerman in Florida for the death of Trayvon Martin.  The measure was sponsored by four members of the council and passed by a margin of ten to one.

Council members said they found research showing a "pattern of racial disparity" in the application of the law.  They say white on black shootings are more often justified than black on white shootings.

Councilwoman Marcia Higgins was the only no vote and said the issue wasn't one the council should be addressing.
