Officials with the Department of Community Health say the risk of contracting West Niles Virus has dropped dramatically after several hard frosts across mid-Michigan have killed the majority of the mosquito population. However, it was a record setting summer. In all, 223 cases were reported along with 13 suspected deaths from West Nile. Most of the cases occurred in Southeast Michigan.
