DETROIT (WKZO) -- The Michigan Department of Community Health is reporting a fifth death due to an outbreak of fungal meningitis.
According to officials, the latest victim is a 62-year-old Washtenaw County man. MDCH officials say there are 49-patients in the state who have contracted meningitis linked to a contaminated steroid.
Fungal meningitis is very rare and, unlike other forms of the disease, is not contagious.
