East Lansing appears ready to tackle the city’s 50/50 rule, a local ordinance enacted in 1989 that says all East Lansing restaurants and bars must derive at least 50 percent of their revenues from food sales.  Some city officials think the rule is outdated and are considering suspending the rule. Mayor Pro Tem Nathan Triplett tells the Lansing State Journal the rule antiquated and ineffective.
