UNDATED (WTVB) - If you’re calling in sick today, you’d better think twice about faking it. A new survey by CareerBuilder.com shows when employees want a day off, they'll come up with a variety of excuses to get it. About a third of nearly four-thousand workers called in with false ailments in order to play hooky during the past year. While some excuses are truthful, some are exaggerations and some are clearly lies. Human resource professionals tell CareerBuilder some of the most memorable excuses include: "Employee was upset after watching 'The Hunger Games,'" and "Employee's hair turned orange from dying her hair at home." But, employees need to beware. Nearly 30-percent of employers have checked up on a worker and 17-percent have fired them for a phony excuse.
