LANSING (WKZO) -- A federal judge has now agreed with what a number of local clerks and the ACLU have been saying, that Michigan’s Secretary of State has no business demanding that local clerks put a box on every ballot requiring that voters check whether or not they are U.S. Citizens.
Federal Judge Paul Borman issued a preliminary injunction Friday, saying “this is just not inviting, it’s creating chaos”. He plans to issue a written opinion on Tuesday.
Clerk Ruth Johnson has insisted that she has authority through the U.S. Government to include the box to prevent voter fraud. Critics call it an intimidation tactic to try and scare away low income voters, who may not have picture I.D.
