Soundgarden and Green Day both scored positions in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week.
Soundgarden scored the #5 spot with their first album in 16 years, King Animal , which sold 83,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan. While King Animal ’s first-week sales performance is impressive, it doesn’t come close to the initial success of the band's previous release, 1996's Down on the Upside , which racked up 176,000 copies in its first week and claimed the #2 spot on the list.
Meanwhile, the second installment of Green Day’s trilogy, ¡Dos! , clocked in at #9 with 69,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Soundscan. ¡Dos! didn’t do as well as the band’s previous release, ¡Uno! , which debuted and peaked at #2 on the tally, selling 139,000 copies its first week out. Green Day’s final album in the series, ¡Tré! , will arrive in stores on December 11.
