On the eve of the firearm deer hunting season, which begins on Thursday, the Michigan DNR is moving to scale back the deer harvest because of an insect borne illness that killed thousands of deer across the state. The director of the DNR signed the emergency order Friday that cut down o the numbers of antlerless permits to be issued in certain counties, including Ionia, Branch and Kent County.
