LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says the federal permits to build a new international bridge between Detroit and Canada have been in the works for several months.

The statewide proposal that would have required a vote of the people before any bridge or tunnel was built, was defeated at the polls Tuesday.  Snyder says the permits should be finalized within the next six months.

The bridge, which has received support from labor unions, will be funded by the Canadian government and will cost an estimated 2.1-billion dollars.
