TinCaps Edge Lugnuts

FORT WAYNE (WLMI) Kyle Gaedelesmacked a two-out, walk-off RBI single for the Fort Wayne TinCaps (4-2, 35-41), downing the Lansing Lugnuts (3-3, 50-25) 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Parkview Field.

With the Lugs up 2-1 and the TinCaps down to their final out in the ninth inning, Austin Hedges smashed a game-tying solo shot to left off of Ajay Meyer (Loss, 3-2). Duanel Jones followed by drawing a walk and moved to second on a Meyer balk, setting up Gaedele’s game-winning single.

The rubber match of the three-game series was a pitcher’s duel in which both starters allowed just one tally.

Lugs lefty David Rollins allowed a base runner in each of his five innings of work, but gave up just one run while striking out five and walking two. Fort Wayne’s Ruben Mejia struck out three and gave up three hits over four innings, surrendering only a two-out RBI single to Andy Fermin in the second inning.

K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) had given the Lugnuts the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI double that allowed Chris Hawkins (0-for-3, two walks) to touch home.

The TinCaps’ bullpen was good again allowing just one run over five innings of work on Wednesday including a scoreless ninth inning from Jonny Barbato (Win, 5-0).

Following the series loss to Fort Wayne, the Lugnuts continue their season-long nine-game road trip with a three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Thursday, June 28th, at 8:05 p.m. ET. Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 3.51) will start the opener for Lansing. Bowling Green will counter with righty Parker Markel (2-4, 4.89).

Lansing will return home on Wednesday, July 4th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons. The opener of a three-game homestand will feature LAFCU Fireworks. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
