LANSING, Mich (WLMI) Ryan Brett delivered a 13th inning, two-RBI double to give the Bowling Green Hot Rods (19-12, 57-44) a 15-13 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (19-12, 66-34) in a four hour and eleven minute marathon on Wednesday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Bowling Green and Lansing are now tied for first in the second half Eastern Division standings after a game that featured 39 hits, four blown saves, four errors and three home runs.
There were a combined seven runs scored in the ninth inning and traded tallies in the eleventh inning.
Kevin Patterson (2-for-7) smashed a three-run shot in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings. Shane Opitz (1-for-6, run) extended the game in the bottom of the eleventh when he smoked a two-out RBI triple in an inning that was extended because of an error.
Lansing starter Aaron Sanchez worked 4 2/3 innings, gave up three hits, allowed five runs, walked five and struck out seven. Aleson Escalante (Loss, 1-1) allowed two runs in two innings of work while walking a pair and striking out one.
Hot Rods reliever Andrew Bellatti (Win, 5-3) threw three innings, gave up two hits, one unearned run and struck out three while walking none.
All nine Lugnuts starters recorded at least one hit. Seven Lugs recorded multi-hit efforts, with three delivering four hits. Chris Peters was 4-for-5 with a run scored. Michael Crouse went 4-for-7 including a three-run homer. Chris Hawkins had four hits in seven at bats, drove in a pair and scored twice.
The Lugnuts continue their six-game homestand on Thursday, July 26th at 7:05 p.m. It is a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday, featuring $2 beer and soda specials. Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (7-2, 2.72) starts for Lansing opposite Hot Rods right-hander Parker Markel (5-5, 5.09).
