Loons Beat Luggies

LANSING, Mich (WLMI) Four two-out runs in the fourth inning downed the Lansing Lugnuts (7-7, 54-29) in a 5-2 loss to the Great Lakes Loons (6-8, 40-44) on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium in front of 5,342 fans.

The Loons posted three consecutive one-out singles against Lugs starter Justin Nicolino (Loss, 3-2). After Jan Vazquez struck out, Pedro Guerrero delivered a two-RBI single and proceeded to score on Delvis Morales’ two-run single that gave the Loons their 5-2 lead.

Nicolino tossed four innings, gave up seven hits and five runs, but walked just one and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts.

Arismendy Ozoria (Win, 5-4) twirled six innings and allowed just two runs while striking out three in his start for the Loons.

The Lugnuts brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Michael Thomas (Save, 3) induced a game-ending double play out of K.C. Hobson.

Bryan Longpre turned in his best performance as a Lugnut allowing just one hit over four shutout innings.

Hobson (2-for-4) put the Lugnuts on the board first with a second-inning RBI single. Chris Hawkins gave the Lugnuts a short-lived, one-run lead with an RBI single.
