LANSING -- New Year's Eve patrols are already underway across Michigan.

Numerous police agencies began working over the weekend in the hopes of cracking down on drunk or impaired drivers in anticipation of tonight's celebrations.  The effort is part of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning's New Year's drunk driving crackdown.

Last year there were 14 fatal crashes on state roads, and five of those were alcohol related.
