LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says animal shelters in the state are receiving record amounts of donations this year.
For the 2013 grant period, 20 facilities were awarded over 177-thousand dollars. Last year, just five facilities received grant money of nearly 44-thousand dollars.
The money is coming from the Companion Animal Welfare Fund, which is used to support the adoption of spayed and neutered animals.
