Police release name of GVSU student killed Friday

OTTAWA COUNTY (WKZO) -- Police have released the name of the Grand Valley State student, who was hit and killed during a night out with friends Friday evening.

19-year-old Jessie Winterholler of Trenton was crossing 3-Mile N.W. near Nolan around 7PM when she apparently stepped in front of a vehicle. The female driver from the Holland area and the victim’s two friends were all distraught.

The three GVSU classmates were apparently driving to a home off-campus when two of them got into an argument and one of them got out of the car. Winterholler was apparently going after her when she was struck.

Police say she did not cross at the Crosswalk, and they doubt charges will be brought against the driver. GVSU will have grief councilors on hand.
