DEARBORN (WKZO) -- Ford Motor Company's claim of 47-miles per gallon for the new C-Max hybrid and Fusion Hybrid is being questioned by owners and a national magazine. The publication "Consumer Reports" says their tests found the best fuel mileage was 37-miles-per gallon for the C-Max and 39 m.p.g. for the Fusion.
Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency say their results and actual miles of owners vary due to driving styles. However, Ford officials say while the magazine could not achieve the EPA mileage, customers have written they have surpassed those mileage estimates.
While all vehicles are put through the same EPA test for mileage, those tests are not done by the government, the automakers conduct the tests.
