A proposal by a company owned by Red Wings and Tigers owner Mike Illitch could create an arena district in downtown Detroit near Comerica Park and the Fox Theatre.  Yesterday, Olympia Development of Michigan, part of Illitch Holdings, announced plans to explore the possibility of a 650-million-dollar development which would include a new arena for the Red Wings along with retail, office and residential housing.  A timeline for the construction of the new development has not yet been announced.
