EASTLAKE, Ohio (WLMI) Luigi Rodriguez lashed a two-run triple to back Danny Jimenez’s gem in the Lansing Lugnuts’ (29-26, 76-48) 6-0 loss against the Lake County Captains (31-25, 62-63) in the series finale on Tuesday evening at Classic Park.
Lugnuts starter Noah Syndergaard (Loss, 7-5) allowed just two hits, both to Rodriquez, in 3 2/3 innings of work in which he struck out three. The righty was hurt by a season-high-tying four walks. Syndergaard walked a pair in the fourth inning before allowing the two-run triple to Rodriguez that knocked him out of the game.
Captains starter Jimenez (Win, 2-3) tossed a career-high seven innings, allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out five. The lefty retired ten in a row from the second to the fifth innings before he sent down the last seven batters he faced.
Out of the Lugnuts bullpen, Brandon Berl worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings before Phil Brua tossed a scoreless frame.
The Captains tacked on four unearned runs against Ajay Meyer in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Shane Opitz dropped a liner that allowed two runs to score. Ian Kadish relieved Meyer and immediately surrendered a two-RBI double to Francisco Lindor.
The Lugnuts recorded just three hits in the losing effort, doubles supplied by K.C. Hobson, Kevin Patterson and Opitz.
The Lugnuts begin a three-game series against the Loons on Wednesday, August 21st at 7:05 p.m. Justin Nicolino (8-4, 2.63) is scheduled to start for Lansing against Loons right-hander Arismendy Ozoria (8-7, 4.43).
