LANSING, Mich (WLMI) Three errors by the Lansing Lugnuts (25-17, 72-38) led to three unearned runs in a 7-1 loss against the West Michigan Whitecaps (20-22, 56-56) on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

A pair of K.C. Hobson errors in the bottom of the second allowed two unearned runs to score against Noah Syndergaard (Loss, 7-4)  who took a tough-luck loss. The right-hander worked five innings, allowed just those two unearned tallies, struck out three and walked one.

Whitecaps starter Kyle Ryan (Win, 6-6) was excellent over 5 2/3 innings of work. The lefty struck out a season-high seven batters, walked three and allowed just one run.

The Lugnuts offense could not take advantage of seven more walks issued by the Whitecaps’ pitching staff. Lansing left ten runners on base including the bases loaded in the sixth and eighth innings.

Nick Baligod recorded the Lugnuts’ only multi-hit performance and scored the lone run in the losing effort.

Phil Brua allowed two runs, one of which was unearned in an inning of work out of the bullpen. Brandon Berl tossed three innings and gave up three runs, including a big two-RBI double to Jeff McVaney in the seventh inning that made it a 6-1 contest.

On Monday, August 5th at 7:05 p.m., the Lugnuts will send Justin Nicolino (7-3, 2.48) to the mound opposite Whitecaps righty Jeff Ferrell (4-4, 4.42).  Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
