Leslie Brooks was found in the basement of the home in which he lived. Police and EMT's ruled it a natural death.
Later, as the mortician was preparing to embalm him, she and her assistants found a small-calibre bullet wound.
If you've ever watching ANY crime show EVER you know that the first 48 hours of the investigation are the most important. Any chance of catching the criminal rely on evidence and breaks derived in that time frame.
After that, the criminal's chances of being caught diminish exponentially.
Kinda sucks, then, that Detroit Police did not process the crime scene and any available evidence has been walked over dozens of times by friend, family, and maybe even Leslie Brooks' killer.
Knowing how much flack Detroit police are taking for the ridiculous amount of crime happening within the city I can't imagine how crappy it felt for the guy that took the call.
Mortician: Hello, is this the officer that took the Leslie Brooks call?
Officer: The natural death? What's up?
Mortician: We found a bullet wound on the body.
Officer: *silence*
Mortician: Hello?
Officer: I was just wondering what Europe looked like this time of year.
Mortician: Tell Roman Polanski I said 'hi.'
