Richard Gere was recently asked about his role in Pretty Woman. To his credit, he answered the question.
I know I HATE when people ask me about some old situation I long ago stopped caring about:
Him: Hey Span! How'd you feel about that one thing that one time...
Me: *punches him in the mouth*
The man has done like 30 movies since Pretty Woman, but people keep asking. But like anyone else that changes over time, his opinion on the role that made him a superstar has changed.
He doesn't like it.
He feels he made guys like his character Edward Lewis, who in the movie bought companies and sold them off in pieces, look dashing whereas we should be more skeptical of them.
He's got a point.
