God Bless Reddit!
I found a thread speaking on the legitimacy of the non-profit, Invisible Children, currently spearheading the Kony 2012 Youtube campaign.
What you're looking at is a summary financial breakdown of Invisible Children's expenditures from June 2010 through June 2011. The highlighted portion are their travel expenditures.
Just over $1 million in travel was spent by an organization looking to help African children.
I don't know anything about running a non-profit, especially one looking to take down someone so entrenched in a volatile political situation as Joseph Kony. But those kind of travel expenditures for a non-profit raise a great deal of questions.
Clearly the man is a butcher. Clearly the guy needs to be caught, tried, and separated from the rest of society for the rest of his natural life.
But beware the causes you ascribe to, especially with your dollars. I don't know enough about Invisible Children to know they're doing right towards the children under the oppression of Joseph Kony.
I also don't know enough to accuse them of doing wrong.
But I know enough now to call into question their motivations in pursuing this man. And sometimes, sometimes, I'd reeeeeally prefer not to have to. Question, that is.
Invisible Children has responded to the criticism and posted not only their previously unreleased financle reports...
...but they've also provided a detailed explanation of their financial records and practices for added transparency.
Here's their $850,000 video on Joseph Kony.
