The Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy of books at one point sold two million copies in one month. To give you an idea of how massive that is, if you sell 500 books in a week you could make the New York Times Best Seller list.
If you sell around 10,000 in a week you're a lock to be number one. Often times you can sell much MUCH less to secure that position.
And a middle-aged woman who admits that she's not a good writer is selling books about a bdsm relationship between a billionaire and a college student by the truckload. All this while admitting that she doesn't think she's a good writer.
I've read the first 20 pages of Fifty Shades of Grey and can confirm that she is, in no way, a good writer. But after watching the interview I can see why the book comes across to so many.
E.L. James does not have her head up her ass. She's smart, she's funny, and she's totally in the present when it comes to the fame and money and opportunity these books have brought her.
So I'm rooting for her. Soon, I'm sure, you will be too. She rarely does interviews so enjoy!
