In the past 3 months we have seen major devastation from oil spills. It started in the Gulf of Mexico in April and now it has hit home, right in Battle Creek. The Kalamazoo River is screwed.
My question is how valuable is oil. Sure we can watch the prices per barrel rise and fall. At the end of the day the ultimate cost does not factor in all the hardship that drilling has caused.
We’ve heard about the issues in the Gulf. Now, Battle Creek and the areas in the path of the Kalamazoo River are and will deal with the same scenario. Property and homes along the river will take years to sell and develop due to the contamination. The ecosystem is already being affected, it will only get worse.
Why was there no protocol in place for the disaster in the Gulf? Why does it take such a catastrophe to get people to open their eyes?
It’s our responsibility as humans to have a SOLID game plan as not to screw this planet.
Battle Creek and those affected by the oil spill, we’re in your corner.
