Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide (9/14/12)

Posted by Mac D on

This week Charlize Theron looking good, we have to go find Nemo  . . again, AND ZOMBIES!!!!

These are the movies released in theaters Friday September 14th, 2012.
Finding Nemo 3DRated G
Finding Nemo 3D
A Clown fish loses his only child and must go find him NOW IN 3D!!!  I have written in this blog how much I am not a fan of re-releasing things in 3D.  Disney does it right.  They don’t throw it in our face (I am looking at you Star Wars), they just let us know that it’s there and let the fans enjoy it.

Verdict – I am looking forward to the possibility of taking my 4-year-old nephew to see one of my favorite Pixar movies of all time.

Last Ounce Of CourageRated PG
Last Ounce Of Courage
This is the story of a Grandfather and his Grandson and how they deal with the death of their son/father in war.  After a bit of research this film was created as a form of Christian Ministries.  On of the directors also directed End Of The Spear, which was pretty good.  Christian Ministry movies are usually ok and uplifting.

Verdict – While the Christian themes are a nice change of pace, I worry about the addition of political themes.  Hopefully this will be more Pro Soldier then anything else.

Resident Evil: RetributionRated R
Resident Evil: Retribution
Milla Jovovich returns as Alice in this 5th Resident Evil movie, and yes she is still kicking the crap out of zombies.  This entry will see the addition of fan favorites from the video game series including Ada Wong, Barry Burton, and Leon Kennedy.  As long as I remember that these movies are no longer like the awesome video games I will be fine.

Verdict – I didn’t see Resident Evil 4 for a reason.  These movies, like the Underworld series, are good but never create any sense of urgency to watch them.

For A Good Time, Call . . .Rated R
For A Good Time Call . . .
Two friends need some money.  So the logical thing to do is start a phone sex line.  Somehow this all leads to romance.  The leads (Lauren Miller & Ari Graynor), the director, and writers have not had much experience.  This leads me to wonder how the balance between sex jokes and everything else will work.

Verdict – Eh it could be good.  Much like Bridesmaids, the trailer doesn’t help For A Good Time Call . . . so we will have to see for ourselves.

Snow White And The HuntsmanRated PG-13
Snow White And The Huntsman
The Classic tale of Snow White gets a smokin hot Charlize Theron and medieval warfare added to it.  I have heard good things but given the fact that this is a fairy tale unnecessary combat I don’t believe this will be great.

Next week rowdy teens in the woods, Jake Gyllenhaal takes on a cartel, and Doctor McCoy from Star Trek tries to make us forget a 90’s Stallone dud.
