This week David Cronenberg screws with my mind, Bradley Cooper writes a book, and BOOBIES!!
These are the movies released in theaters Friday September 7th, 2012.
Branded – Rated R
In the near feature a man fights super corporations that have taken over the world. So this is a sci fi movie about the evils of commercialism and capitalism. In the political and economic environment I wonder if the message of Branded will be too heavy handed, especially because the helmers are very inexperienced.
Verdict – My cautious attitude will not stop me from seeing this. I don’t know anything about Branded and it may work in its favor.
The Cold Light Of Day – Rated PG-13
Henry Cavill’s family is abducted during a trip to Spain and it all has to do with a briefcase in Henry’s possession. I want to see this movie for one reason; Henry Cavill’s next film MAN OF STEEL. That’s right the male lead of The Cold Light Of Day is the next Superman. I do not have Showtime to see him in Tudor’s so I will have to settle for this movie. Add in supporting roles by Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver and we have a good thriller.
Verdict – This one might go under the radar but with the cast it has to be entertaining.
Cosmopolis – Rated R
Robert Pattinson is a millionaire who goes crazy. No this isn’t a remake of American Psycho. This is the latest movie from David Cronenberg (The Fly, Videodrome,). Sure his recent work (A History of Violence and Crash) won’t haunt your dreams but Cosmopolis is a throwback to the 80’s. All that Cronenberg did to us in The Fly will be done again but this time with Edward Cullen.
Verdict – If this can actually be considered a horror movie, it will be the best horror movie of the year. It’s David Cronenberg so it will be engrossing and confusing.
The Words – Rated PG-13
Bradley Cooper steals some papers from Jeremy Irons and it could have lead to Cooper’s new bestseller. Knowing the basic plot makes watching the trailer confusing. For me it seems like there might be too many plot lines going on to figure out what’s happening. Which is sad because a Bradley Cooper & Jeremy Irons thriller seems like a winner.
Verdict – I hope this isn’t overwhelming. If it is this will be terrible.

Movie – Rating – Weekend Domestic Gross (Total Domestic Gross)
The big thing to point out here is the opening of Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure, which bombed. I think the phrase “Bomb” is too nice. It was destroyed, obliterated, other big words. The Oogieloves opened up at around $400,000. I also averaged $206 a theater, That is the lowest average of all time. For comparison The Possession averaged $7,485. The director thinks that these Oogieloves will do better on DVD. They better hope a lot better.
