Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide (11/30/12)

Posted by Mac D on

These are the movies released in theaters Friday November 30th, 2012.
The CollectionRated R
The Collection
In this sequel to the 2009 horror movie The Collector (yes I don’t remember The Collector either), Arkin leads some mercs to raid The Collector’s house.  I had to read the Wikipedia entries for both movies in preparation for this blog.  I am still confused as to what’s going on.  This seems like a lack lust rip off of Saw or any other type of slasher movie.

Verdict - Instead of watching The Collection, go watch Halloween (1979)

Killing Them SoftlyRated R
Killing Them Softly
Brad Pitt investigates a Mob protected high stakes poker game.  Pitt always seems to have fun doing these gritty crime movies, and I always love watching them.  This was on the festival circuit this summer and was wildly loved.

Verdict - Should be interesting and entertaining.

Anna KareninaRated R
Anna Karenina
Based on the Classic Novel, Keira Knightley is cheating on her husband, Jude Law, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson.  This is one of Leo Tolstoy’s most loved novels (though who really loves War and Peace?)  Knightley and Law could help this movie but I just can’t get excited about historical love stories.

Verdict - Maybe if the Girlfriend dragged me.

ParaNormanRated PG
ParaNorman
This child friendly scary movie is great.  Kids love it.  I love the idea of it.  Win-Win.

Men In Black 3Rated PG-13
Men In Black 3
MIB3 was a lot better than it should have been.  Will Smith and Josh Brolin work together well.  Most importantly it was funny and entertaining.

Next week Gerard Butler in another romantic copy and the early runner for 2012 movie of the year gets released on DVD.
