This week the first block buster of 2012, Eddie Murphy can’t talk, and a steaming pile of crap.
These are the movies that will be released on Friday, March 9th, 2012
John Carter – Rated PG-13
Based on the Novel series, Tyler Kitsch (Friday Night Lights TV series, Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine) plays a confederate solder that is transported to Mars and takes it upon himself to save the planet. This cast includes Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Thomas Haden Church, Domic West and Bryan Cranston. A film version of John Carter has been in development since the 80’s. I am interested in something new. This is the live action directorial debut of Andrew Stanton who directed Wall-E and Finding Nemo for Pixar. Another Pixar director jumped to live action recently when Brad Bird directed Mission Impossible 4. I expect to be entertained.
Verdict - No hype helps John Carter seem like it could live up to expectations. A relatively untested leading man makes me skeptical but the cast and crew around him makes me optimistic.
Silent House – Rated R
In a remake of the Uruguayan film of the same name, Sarah and her father fix up a vacation home not knowing that home is haunted. The trailers look ok but thats all i have to go on. Not much is known or shared. I enjoy that in a horror film because then I have no clue whats going on or whats going to happen next.
Verdict - Not much is known about this Horror film and that is a good thing. It will keep me guessing.
A Thousand Words – Rated PG-13
Eddie Murphy stars as a guy who is cursed to speak only 1000 words and then he will die. So this movie was shot in 2008 and is being released now, features Eddie Murphy not talking, and is a collaboration by some of the people that brought us Meet Dave and Norbit. I count strikes one, two, and three.
Verdict - Since this is not the 80’s I am no longer interested in anything that Eddie Murphy stars in unless its animated.
Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax – Rated PG
2. Project X – Rated R
3. Act Of Valor – Rated R
4. Safe House - Rated R
5. Good Deeds – Rated PG-13
The Lorax gets #1 which is what I thought. Project X did commendable business but we will see how many people really wanted to see it next week. I predict probably a 5th place finish. Lets see where everything ends up with the dust settles and more then likely John Carter gets #1

These are the movies released on DVD Tuesday March, 6th 2012
Footloose (2011) – Rated PG-13
Another 80’s remake that I question why it was made. I could go on and on about how bad this thing looks. My 16 year old female cousin called this the best movie ever made. That should tell you everything right there.
Immortals – Rated R
This is another action film based on Greek Mythology that has Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, and Mickey Rourke. I am never really excited to see this movies in theaters but on DVD I would give Immortals a try.
Jack and Jill – Rated PG
Adam Sandler plays twins and the female twin is hit on repeatedly by Al Pacino. I called The Roommate the worst movie of 2011 and that was probably because I didn’t see/ forgot to check out Jack and Jill. This was universally panned and makes me want to go watch Happy Gilmore and The Water Boy to remember why any of us like Adam Sandler at all.
Next week Jonah Hill tries to be Johnny Depp plus more academy award winners on DVD.
