This week a reboot that probably shouldn’t have been made, Katy Perry for some reason, and boobs.

The Amazing Spider ManRated PG-13 - REVIEW
The Amazing Spider-Man
I got a chance to see this on the fourth of July.  In this reboot Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) stars a Peter Parker.  A normal teen who is bitten by a genetically altered spider and given superpowers.  Emma Stone (The Help) co-stars as the lover interest Gwen Stacy.  Is ten years too soon to reboot a franchise? Possibly. I liked Garfield’s Spider-Man a lot more the Toby Maguire.  The tone is darker which helped me enjoy this a bit more.  But there are a lot of similarities in plot and direction between this and 2002’s Spider-Man.  Way too many similarities to make this more then average.

Verdict – While I enjoyed the new Spider-Man the “been there done that” feel to most of the movie made it seem average.  I am optimistic about a sequel and hope they can deliver a truly original story. 7/10

SavagesRated R
Savages
Oliver Stone returns to his action roots in this film about small time pot dealers going up against a powerful Mexican drug cartel.  The all-star cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch, John Travolta, and Benicio del Toro.  Hayek looks like she is having a ball as the leader of the cartel.  After watching John Carter I am not sure Kitsch is able to handle a leading man role however I have not lost all faith in Oliver Stone making a fun, thought provoking movie.

Verdict – I wonder why this is being released in July.  It looks good but will probably get lost in the shuffle.  I want to see this.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Ted – Rated R
2. Magic Mike – Rated R
3. Brave – Rated PG
4. Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection – Rated PG-13
5. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted - Rated PG

I am happy for Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane.  Not only did Ted make its budget back in the first week but critics liked it.  Well sort of.  I see Ted having a cult following in the future.  Magic Mike and Madea made ok money but I wonder what the release of Spider-Man will do to the grosses for next week.
