I am a big fan of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse. Its violent, its dark, IT’S METAL. One portion of the show that has always intrigued me is the music. Everything except the drums is written and preformed by co-creator Brandon Small (he also did the music and created Home Movies) The music is great and the lyrical content is very witty and smart. It’s the only band in metal that has created an original Birthday song. I have seen this band live several times and Smalls is just as good live.
I was surprised to learn this week that Brandon Small is releasing a solo album entitled Galaktikon. Isn’t that an Atari game? He is bringing his band that helps him create Dethklok including the atomic clock Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Fear Factory) and his touring bassist Bryan Beller (Steve Vai). Ulrich Wild who produced Dethklok’s two “Albums” joins them. Small said this of the album “This album should be thought of as an audio comic book, an over acted chamber drama, a ridiculous premise that takes itself way too seriously all the way to the end,” I have heard that this album will be more rock and less metal then Dethklock. Sweet, I am currently imagining music that sounds like Dio but is slightly funny. I wonder what Small will do when he can do what ever he wans. How funny will this be? Will I think of the movie Heavy Metal while I am listing? We will find out in April, which is also the start of the 4th season of Metalocalypse, which will go back to 15-minute episodes.
