Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide (8/24/12)

Posted by Mac D on

This week a look into the future, badass bike riding, and Borat takes over a country

These are the movies released in theaters Friday August, 24th 2012.
2016: Obama’s AmericaRated PG
2016: Obama's America
Political Commentator Dinesh D’Souza takes a look at America if President Barak Obama gets a second term and also looks at the past of the current US President.  Most documentaries are very slanted towards the point of the view of the filmmaker.  Some are so heavy handed that it drags the film down.  Due to the current political climate I can’t see how this movie is not horribly influenced by D’Souza’s political beliefs regardless if they are Liberal or Conservative.

Verdict – I think this film is more intriguing after the election but most films like this are trying to beat the clock of November.

The ApparitionRated PG-13
The Apparition
Ashley Greene (Some chick from the Twilight series) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky from Captain America) find out they have a ghost.  Their last hope is a supernatural expert Tom Fenton (MOTHER F’N DRACO MALFOY from the Harry Potter Series) this seems to be aimed at the teen audience.  It is a very standard ghost horror movie.  I have seen too many horror films to think this will be scary at all.  But I hope Stan and Fenton will make this entertaining.

Verdict – I might check this out when I am not surrounded by rowdy teens.

Hit and RunRated R
Hit & Run
Dax Shepard leaves the Witness Protection Program to help Kristen Bell to get to L.A.  He is being chased by Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold and others.  I have never had much faith in Dax Shepard to give me anything hilarious.  This looks like the same from him.

Verdict – I will pass.

Premium RushRated PG-13
Premium Rush
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is being chased around New York City by a dirty cop but Gordon-Levitt IS ON A BIKE.  The Dark Knight Rises show me something that I that was true: Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do action.  Premium Rush will show us he is leading man material for Action Films.  I looks good but will probably be under the radar due to the Expendables 2.

Verdict – I want to see Expendables 2 before this but Premium Rush looks like a sleeper hit.

Movie – Rating – Weekend Domestic Gross (Total Domestic Gross)

The Expendables 2 did well but not as well as the original.  They are already talking about 3 but I wonder if its too early to say there will be a sequel.

The DictatorRated R
The Dictator
Sacha Baron Cohen stars as a Dictator who’s Uncle is trying to oust him via murder.  More of a renter for me, I hope this stands up to Borat or anything Baron Cohen has done that he hasn’t written himself.

Next week another Sam Rami produced Horror movie, someone sunk a boat I liked, and moonshiners.
