This week begins one of my favorite months of the movie year; August. This year doesn’t look as strong as previous but I am waiting for a new idea to take center stage. This week a remake that should not be, summer vacation, and some rowdy teens on DVD.
These are the movies released in theaters Friday August, 3rd 2012.
Total Recall – Rated PG-13
In a Remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger 1990 film of the same name, Doug Quaid (Colin Farrell) visits Rekall to have a vacation memories implanted but instead finds out he may or may not be a secret operative. Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, John Cho, Ethan Hawke and Bryan Cranston Co-star. Do we really need this remake? If this was more like the short story Total Recall is based off of that might work but its not. Len Wiseman (Director of Live Free or Die Hard and The Underworld series) should make this entertaining.
Verdict – Yes. There will be a woman with three boobies. In this day in age they will probably be CGI instead of papier-mâché. I will catch this on another medium.
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days – Rated PG
It’s summer for that wimpy kid and all his summer plans have been shot. What is a wimpy kid to do? The last two Wimpy Kid movies have been released in the spring and made money. I like that they didn’t stick this in June or July to possibly get slaughtered. This is no where near anything I would ever watch.
Verdict – I have been told these movies are good and enjoyed by the target demo of preteens but that is enough for me to pay attention.
