Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide (4/20/12)

Posted by Mac D on

In celebration of 420 I watched Reefer Madness (1936) for the first time.  Now I am scared to go outside. This week three of my favorite things; Monkeys, Kevin Hart, and Tom Cruise in an action film.

These are the movies that will be released on Friday April 20th, 2012
Chimpanzee -  Rated G
Chimpanzee
This is a nature documentary narrated by Tim Alen.  It tells a story of an orphaned Chimp who is raised by the alpha male.  Chimps are awesome.  Either you like documentaries or you hate them.  I rather enjoy well made and well shot films.  Seeing as this is a wide release I expect good things.

Verdict – I want to see this.  Portions of the first weeks ticket sales will be donated to the Jane Goodall Institute.

The Lucky OneRated PG-13
The Lucky One
Based on the Novel of the same name written by Nicholas Sparks who wrote The Notebook.  The Lucky one tells the story of a US Marine (Zac Efron) who finds a picture in Iraq.  This picture ends up saving his life several times.  When he makes it back home he finds this girl and thus begins a romance.  They lsot me at Zac Efron.  Too much romance and not enough laughs for my taste. I do not think this will be bad but just a huge chick flick.

Verdict – One of the great things about being a single male is not being dragged to The Lucky One

Think Like A ManRated PG-13
Think Like A Man
Four couples have some troubles as the ladeies read Steve Harvey’s book “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man” .  The Men figure this out and try to turn the tables.  Kevin Hart’s performance in this movie seems to be a selling point.  Luckily I love Hart and wanted to see this movie just for him..  Add Regina Hall, Romany Malco, Gabrielle Union and Steve Harvey himself to the cast and I think this could be an enjoyable time at the theater.

Verdict – Looks good and also I should probably take notes.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. The Hunger Games – Rated PG-13
2. The Three Stooges – Rated PG
3. Cabin In The Woods – Rated R
4. Titanic (3D 2012 Re-Release) - Rated PG-13
5. American Reunion - Rated R

The hunger games keep on rolling.  I think that The Avengers is the only film that can take the games down.  Cabin In The Woods is being called the best Horror Movie in a long time though it is not too scary according to people I have spoken with.  The Three Stooges more then likely hit the kids as it wasn’t reviewed too well but has been the best Farrelly Brothers movie in ten years.

Still In Theatres
21 Jump Street – Rated R, Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax – Rated PG, Lockout – Rated PG-13, Mirror Mirror - Rated PG, October Baby – Rated PG-13,  The Raid: Redemption – Rated R, Salmon Fishing in The Yemen - PG-13, Wrath Of The Titans – Rated PG-13

These are the movies released on DVD Tuesday April 17th, 2012
Mission: Impossible – Ghost ProtocolRated PG-13
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
MI4 is one of my favorite action films of the past couple of years.  Tom Cruise still has it and it takes a well thought out Mission Impossible movie to prove it.
Next week Mark Wahlberg does his Han Solo impersonation, a long ass engagement, and Edgar Alan Poe and most of his stories all balled into one movie.
