Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide For 10/28/11

Posted by Mac D on

Looking for horror movies to watch this weekend?  In no specific order, I recommend Halloween (1978), Friday The 13th Part 2, Scream, A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984), Shaun Of The Dead, Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers, The Thing (1982), Dawn Of The Dead (2004), and The Evil Dead just to name a few.

This week a new Shrek movie, Johnny Depp Drunk, and an American icon comes to DVD.

These are the movies that were released on Friday October 28th, 2011

Puss in Boots (2011)Rated PG

In a prequel to the Shrek series, Puss (Antonio Banderas) has to stop Jack & Jill (Billy Bob Thorton & Amy Sedaris) from destroying the world.  Apparently he is going to do this with cuteness.  The Sherk movies are funny and entertaining.  If your going to stop Shrek movies and spin a character off to their own movies Puss In Boots was very logical.  I expect much from this film

Verdict – One of the few kid’s movies I wouldn’t mind seeing immediately.

In TimePG-13

In Time

In the future people pay for things in time instead of money.  When you loose all your time you die.  That doesn’t sound right.  Well a wealthy man gives his remaining 125 years to Justin Timberlake and he is on the run from the cops and the mob.  This film is very interesting.  This seems like a premise that could be entertaining. Some people will not be able to look past Timberlake but Social Network proved he could act.

Verdict – I hope this is as good as it looks.

The Rum DiaryRated R

The Rum Diary

This is the story of a Journalist (Johnny Depp) who goes to work for a newspaper in Puerto Rico.  Lots of drinking follows.  Based off the novel by Hunter S Thompson, this author’s other movie adaptation was Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.  While Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is about drugs and is autobiographical, this story is fiction and about booze.  I still call it a spiritual successor.  It will be weird and it’s got Johnny Depp.  Though the film will look entirely different and will not give me hallucinations.

Verdict – Johnny Depp returns to small indy films and there is much rejoicing.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Paranormal Activity 3 – Rated R

2. Footloose (2011) – Rated PG-13
3. Real Steel – PG-13

4. The Three Musketeers (2011) – Rated PG-13

5. The Ides of March – Rated R

Not surprised in the least.  Johnny English and those Musketeers bombed.  All will be crushed by Puss in Boots.

Captain America: The First AvengerRated PG-13

Captian America: The First Avenger

Out of all the movies leading up to The Avengers this one is the best.   Right mix of comedy, action and drama.  Forget The Avengers I am waiting for the sequel.

Next week Pixar on DVD, Eddie Murphy tries to gain some credibility back, and the first Christmas movie.  Here’s a hint its in 3D and will have tons of drug references in it.  Nothing says the holidays like good old-fashioned drug references.
