Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide for 3/5/2011

Posted by Mac D on

The first weekend in March brings us shenanigans in the 80’s, a lizard Johnny Depp, and ANNE HATHAWAY NUDE.  Oh boy I can’t contain myself.

These are the movies that were released on Friday, March 5th, 2011

RangoRated PG

 Rango

In this animated film, Johnny Depp voices a chameleon who is trying to clean up a town in the old west. You had me at Johnny Depp.  This is from Pirates of the Caribean 1 director Gore Verbeinski and it is rated PG due to tobacco and alcohol use, Score!

Verdict – This should be one of those animated movies that has something for every one.  Lets see how Johnny Depp does in an animated film.

The Adjustment BureauRated PG-13

 The Adjustment Bureau

Matt Damon lives in a world where your density is supplied and controlled by the Adjustment Bureau.  I am intrigued by the plot and add General Zod himself Terrance Stamp as the villain I am sold.  Matt Damon should make this enjoyable.

Verdict – I hope the government already penciled me in for a viewing.

Take Me Home TonightRated R

 Take Me Home Tonight

Topher Grace stars as a recent college grad, trying to figure out what to do with his life, having one crazy Labor Day weekend.  IT”S IN THE 80’s.  Two things jump out at me that make me think this could be above average 1. Topher Grace.  He has yet to do a straight comedy since leaving That 70’s Show (In Good Company doesn’t count).  He was one of the reasons That 70’s Show was good so I expect some laughs which brings me to 2.  This is written by two former writers from That 70’s Show.  I hope that both the writers and Grace can tap into their former show and this movie should be funny.

Verdict – I shall go wearing leg warmers and a jean jacket.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Hall Pass – Rate R
2. Gnomeo & Juliet – Rated G
3. Unknown – Rated PG-13
4. I Am Number 4 – Rated PG-13
5. Just Go With It – Rated PG-13

Well Nicholas Cage’s Drive Angry bombed.  Hall Pass is a bit of a surprise as I thought it would be two.  I still cannot believe Gnomeo & Juliet is hanging around.  Perhaps Rango will save me from the lawn gnomes.

127 HoursRated R

 127 Hours

This is the movie that gave James Franco an Oscar nomination.  This is also a movie where James Franco is stuck in a hole for 127 hours.  It is a good movie and I will watch it again.

FasterRated R

Faster

The Rock is angry and Billy Bob Thorton has to ring him in.  The reviews are mixed but I cant imagine this movie not being fun to watch.

Love & Other DrugsRated R

 Love and Other Drugs

As the Oscars have reminded me, this movie Anne Hathaway is naked most of the time.  Score.  TRIPLE SCORE.  I am too excited now lets move on.
