Mac D's Weekend Movie Guide for 6/24/2011

Posted by Mac D on

We are almost to July 4th weekend.  I would say we are half way through the blockbuster season.  This week a new Pixar movie, Cameron Diaz in something watch able, and a film that will prove that Liam Neeson will destroy you with two fingers.

These are the movies that were released on Friday, June 24th, 2011
Cars 2Rated G

Cars 2

Lightning McQueen (Voice of Owen Wilson) and his friend Mater (Voice of Larry The Cable Guy) partake in the World Grand Prix.  On they side they help out in spy missions.  Cars is my lest favorite Pixar movie.  Which means I liked it but didn’t love it.  This sequel will more the likely be more of the same.  I do not believe that Pixar can make a bad movie but I am not running out to see this right away.

Verdict – The most profitable Pixar franchise is back and your kids already begging you to take them.  Pixars track record means that you will enjoy your self.

Bad TeacherRated R

Bad Teacher

Cameron Diaz plays a horrible teacher who gets dumped by her rich fiancé.  So she tries to bag the rich substitute teacher played by Justin Timberlake.  The trailers look funny and I think this could work due to Cameron Diaz.  This character is not like anything Diaz has played before.  It could work to her benefit.  Add the comedic talents of Jason Segel, John Michael Higgins, Molly Shannon and Phyllis from the Office and I think this could be a entertaining two hours.

Verdict – I think it might be good thought I could be the only one.  I just hoped to be entertained and laugh a couple of times.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Green Lantern – Rated PG-13
2. Super 8 – Rated PG-13
3. Mr. Popper’s Penguins – Rated PG
4. X-Men: First Class – Rated PG-13
5. The Hangover Part II – Rated R

I am glad that Green Lantern took #1.  Good or bad Warner Brothers needs to feel it can make money off other DC properties.  This is one step.  Every one I spoke to either thought it was OK or hated it.  I hope to see my self this weekend.  Can some one please announce X-Men: First Class 2 please?

Still In Theatres
The Art of Getting By – Rated PG-13, Bridesmaids – Rated R, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer – Rated PG, Kung Fu Panda 2 – Rated PG, Midnight In Paris – Rated PG-13, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Rated PG-13, Thor – Rated PG-13, Tree of Life – Rated PG-13

These are the movies released on DVD the week of June 21tst, 2010

UnknownRated PG-13

Unknown

Liam Neeson in another action film that makes him look like a complete bad ass that could kill you in 3 seconds.  Neeson is a Doctor who has lost his memory and has his identity stolen.  I have no hope that this is better then Taken but I do hope it is just as good.

The Adjustment BureauPG-13

The Adjustment Bureau

A secret government agency is trying to keep Matt Damon and Emilly Blunt apart.  Its Matt Damon in a quasi action film, I don’t think it could be that bad.  I had heard very good things from this movie so I will have to check it out.

Cedar RapidsRated R

Cedar Rapids

Ed Helms gets sent to a conference by his company, Shenanigans follow.  This was filmed in Ann Arbor so that’s more then enough reasons for me to watch this.

Next week chicks fighting in a world created by 300 director Zach Snyder, Tom Hanks returns theatres, and big giant robots.
