I survived another 4th of July weekend. I finally saw Green Lantern and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. This week Kevin James has a movie that I have no earthly idea why this is being released in the summer (oh wait yes I do), Kevin Spacey plays a dick, and I grasp at straws.
These are the movies that were released on Friday July 8th, 2011
Zookeeper – Rated PG

Kevin James is a Zookeeper who cannot pick a woman to save his life. So its up to his animals to help him land a chick. This voice cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, and Adam Sandler. Ok, I do not think it looks that bad. With the cast and voice cast I think it could just end up being a guilty pleasure. The plot is horrible but the creative people involved could make it work. I do question the reasoning about releasing this now. The summer blockbusters will crush zookeeper. This movie should have been released in the fall or more then likely January.
Verdict – A renter for sure but I would have to be pretty bored.
Horrible Bosses – Rated R

3 guys (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudekis) plot to kill each other’s bosses (Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrell). Why? Because they are jerks. The cast is solid. I am looking forward to the scenes with Spacey and Bateman. That should be worth the price of admission. I do have a fear that this will be too dark and end up like Death To Smoochy (I was the only one in the theatre laughing).
Verdict – I shall take my boss to this movie. Perhaps he will take the hint.
Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon – Rated PG-13
2. Cars 2 – Rated G
3. Bad Teacher – Rated R
4. Larry Crowne – Rated PG-13
5. Monte Carlo – Rated PG
Transformers 3 made a crap ton of money to the tune of $180 million domestically and $418 worldwide. It looks like another director will get a shot at the Transformers franchise as Michael Bay said this was going to be his last Transformers movie. We can only hope. It also is the biggest 4th of the July Opening weekend ever. Cars 2 and Bad Teacher dropped by an average of 50% from the previous weekend. So please Hollywood pay attention and make a He-Man movie already. I need to get that one from the 80’s with Dolph Lundgren out of my head.
Still In Theatres
Bridesmaids – Rated R, Green Lantern – Rated PG-13, The Hangover Part II – Rated R, Kung Fu Panda 2 – Rated PG, Midnight In Paris – Rated PG-13, Mr. Popper’s Penguins – Rated PG, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Rated PG-13, Super 8 – Rated PG-13, Tree of Life – Rated PG-13, X-Men: First Class – Rated PG-13
These are the movies released on DVD the week of July 5th, 2010

Wow can you guess that nothing is coming out on DVD this week? This TV show, I wanted to like. I wanted it to succeed. Then when I finally sat down and watched the pilot, I couldn’t make it through the entire thing.
Next week the creators of Saw might have actually made another good movie, more pooh, and the end of Harry Potter. Your tween may cry a lot.
