Mac D's Weekend Movie for 7/1/2011

Posted by Mac D on

Its Fourth of July Day weekend.  I hope my thumbs survive.  This week BIG GIANT ROBOTS, Tom Hanks, and crap.
These are the movies that were released on Wednesday June 29th, 2011

Transformers: Dark Of The MoonRated PG-13

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Something from the Transformers home planet of Cybertron has crash landed on the moon.  The Autobots and Decpticons are fighting over it on earth.  Lets be honest.  This movie is about GIANT FIGHTING ROBOTS.  Its going to be cool.  I have heard two things.  1. This movie is an insault on your intelligence. 2. This movie is the best of the Transformers movies.  Confusing isn’t?  I think that if you enjoyed the past two Transformers movies you are going to like this.

Verdict – Lets hope that there is more than meets the eye.  Good or Bad I still want to watch on IMAX

These are the movies that were released on Friday, July 1st, 2011

Larry CrowneRated PG-13

Larry Crowne

Tom Hanks stars as a middle aged man who looses his job, starts classes at a community college, and tries to hook up with Julia Roberts.  Normally I would go on and on about how I think I have seen this before and the plot has been done to death.  But then I realize that it stars Tom Hanks and is written by Hanks and the lady who wrote My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  The cast should make this entertaining.

Verdict – Talk about counter programming.  If you want to feel like and adult and not watch giant robots, then Larry Crowne is for you.  Tom Hanks always seems to make something watchable.

Monte CarloRated PG

Monte Carlo

Three girls are on trip in Paris.  One of them gets mistaken for a British heiress.  Wackyness follows.  As I am a man in my late twenty’s, I do not find redeeming value in a movie marketed to teen girls. It stars Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy.  I do not have any idea who they are.

Verdict – This movie doesn’t have Tom Hanks or giant robots thus will not be getting my business this weeked.

Box Office Top 5 Movies In The Country
1. Cars 2 – Rated G
2. Bad Teacher – Rated R
3. Green Lantern – Rated PG-13
4. Super 8 – Rated PG-13
5. Mr. Popper’s Penguins – Rated PG

Cars 2 is the worst reviewed Pixar movie ever and it still made $66 Million.  Green Lantern dropped 66% from last week.  Is something evil going on at the box office?  Seeing as Transformers has already made close to $40 million so far its fair to say that both movies will see further drops in box office intake.

Still In Theatres

Bridesmaids – Rated R, The Hangover Part II – Rated R, Kung Fu Panda 2 – Rated PG, Midnight In Paris – Rated PG-13, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Rated PG-13, X-Men: First Class – Rated PG-13

These are the movies released on DVD the week of June 28th, 2010

Sucker PunchRated PG-13

Sucker Punch

Zach Snyder (300 and Watchmen) had a misstep with this one.  Do not get me wrong I want to make my own mind up but I cannot ignore the negative reviews.

Season Of The WitchRated PG-13

Season Of The Witch

Nicholas Cage in a sword and sorcery movie?  PASS.  I don’t even think Ron Pearlman could make this watch able.

Next week Kevin James in a movie I think should be released in January, Kevin Spacey and a all star cast try to tickle my funny bone, and that’s it.  THAT’S IT?  Oh crap its time for me to rewatch all my movies again
