The Future of Michigan State Football

Posted by Mac D on

Well MSU lost but it’s not the end of the world.   We are no longer in control of our destiny and with that new 16 rank in the AP, 14th in the BCS , our national title hopes are gone.  I am very happy I can even say that for a week or two, Michigan State University Football was in the national title hunt.  Yes we lost badly on Saturday.  Yes it was a very poorly played game.  I do not like to dwell on the past.  It was always coached in me that when you loose you let it hurt for a bit but then go and start focusing on the future.  That is what I will do.  I will focus on the future.  There is still hope for a share of the Big Ten title. I don’t even care which bowl we go to as long as we win a share of the Big Ten title.  Minnesota, Purdue and Penn State stand in our way.  I know you guys.  You still want to go to the Rose Bowl. And it is still possible.

Two other teams stand in our way; Wisconsin and Ohio State/Iowa.  Ohio State and Iowa still have to play each other.  I have never thought I would say this but “Go Bucks”.  I feel dirty.  If we win out and go 11-1 (which is very possible) lets see how we do head to head with these teams.

The Wisconsin Badgers 7-1 (3-1).  They still have to play  @ Purdue, Indiana, @ Michigan, and Northwestern

Head to head against the Spartans? Spartans WIN.

Of course we win head to head against the Badgers as we are to blame for that 1 in the loss column.  That is actually the third criteria after a National Championship game and illegibility.  Wisconsin does not hurt us at all.  Oh by the way Wisconsin thanks again for beating Ohio State and Iowa.  You’re a doll.  They still have to play Michigan and Northwestern so it will not be easy for them.

The Ohio State Buckeyes 8-1 (4-1) They still have to play Penn State, @ Iowa, and Michigan..

Head to head against the Spartans? Spartans LOSE

It comes down to this.  If MSU wins out and Ohio State wins out we have the same over all record at 11-1.  The next tiebreaker comes to higher BCS rankings.  Ohio State still has to play Iowa, which will boost their BCS ranking if they win.  If they loose well then Iowa has a good chance to win out and there goes the Rose Bowl.  The rest of our opponents are unranked right now in the BCS.  We need people a head of us to loose to get a higher ranking.  Probably.  So I am looking DIRECTLY AT YOU UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN.  You Wolverines need to beat Ohio State this year.  They need to knock off Iowa for us.  You need to beat Ohio State for us.

The Iowa Hawkeyes 6-2 (3-1) They still have to play @ Indiana, @ Northwestern, Ohio State, and @ Minnesota

Head to head against the Spartans? Spartans LOSE

They beat us head to head.  Simple enough

In a perfect world, Michigan State will win their last three games.  Iowa will loose to Northwestern and then beat Ohio State.  That way we would have the Big Ten title out right or share it with Wisconsin.  Either way we are going to the Rose Bowl.  I am happy with winning a share of the Big Ten title. and 11-1 sounds find to me. All that we do know for sure is November is going to be a crazy month of  college football and MSU is in the thick of it.  And I will be there, in my Lazy Boy, screaming my self horse at the TV
