It's official, not only are Metallica in the early stages of recording a new record with producer Rick Rubin due later this year, they also have a 3D movie featuring the band on the horizon, with a release planned for next year.

The 3D project in the very early stages of production with plans on being in theaters sometime in 2013.

Metallica will be self-financing the feature and have already recruited producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Journey 2: the Mysterious Island).
