Well, I'm sure everyone has their favorites, but one of the unique events in the fall in Kalamazoo is the annual Tomato Taste-off.
Sponsored by the Kalamazoo MSU Extension Master Gardner Program, Kalamazoo In Bloom and the Kalamazoo Garden Council (and, these are SERIOUS gardeners), the event is held Saturday, September 14th from 10am-noon at the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Building at 3299 Gull Road in Kalamazoo.
So, whose tomatoes get judged? Everyone's...even yours if you still have some in the garden. Bring a bunch early and maybe you'll find out how good your tomatoes are. There are prizes, even for the BIGGEST tomato. And, those who come, even kids, all get to sample and vote in the competition.
You never know how many varieties of tomatoes are around until you attend an event like this. There were 67 different varieties of tomatoes entered in last year's competition and organizers are looking for more this year.
And....rumor has it...there may even be some bacon involved in this event at some point!
Now, THAT makes any tomato a treat!
