  • Van Halen Tour Rumors Shot Down

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Contrary to what I reported here on Monday...

Irving Azoff, manager of Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen, has debunked a rumor singer David Lee Roth has spread in recent interviews that rockers Van Halen will perform “probably 50, 60 shows” in Europe beginning at the end of this year. “Nothing’s been discussed yet,” Azoff told Rolling Stone. “Why would he say this? Hey, Dave’s a talkative guy. Why don’t you call and ask him?”

The band had to abruptly cancel a tour of Japan last August when guitarist Van Halen developed severe diverticulitis and his reps predicted he’d need four to six months to recover. Azoff emphasizes that the band’s only scheduled shows remain two April festival dates with Billy Joel in Australia, three June dates in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, and a headlining gig at the Rock USA festival in July in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Would Van Halen possibly do a broader tour, or more dates in 2013? “Not unless something special comes up,” Azoff says. “It certainly won’t be a tour of Europe.”

Per Roth, “I am frankly surprised that these [tour dates] happened now. I think probably . . . they had designs on somebody else . . . or somebody else got sick, because we are here to save the day. These are big shows – these are like 50-70,000 person shows. And they’re just coming together fast, which says, hmm . . . probably somebody else bowed out or somebody else took ill.”

Azoff says none of Roth’s declarations about the “big shows” are true, although the band is beginning to rehearse for the Australian gigs.

The mentally unstable Roth could not be reached for a comment.

  • Judas Priest Recording New Record, Live Epitaph DVD Coming Soon

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Judas Priest are making progress on a new and untitled studio record. In the meantime, we expect a release date for their live "Epitaph" DVD to be announced shortly.

The new record will be their first release with Richie Faulkner, the guitarist who replaced co-founder K.K. Downing in 2011.

The last that fans heard about a new Priest record was in August when front man Rob Halford described what fans could expect from their new ideas. "We've already got a strong cross-section of ideas, some of them complete, some of them in bits and pieces. It's shaping up to be quite intense, in terms of the riffage and the strength of certain tracks," he said. "There are elements of 'British Steel' and there elements of 'Painkiller' in terms of the vibe."

There's no sign of a release date, but Halford says they're in no rush to complete the record. "I remember in the '80's we were banging out a record almost every year, and that was on top of putting in a world tour. We have the luxury now, if you want to call it that, of taking our time," he said.

    Full "Epitaph" setlist:

    01. Rapid Fire
    02. Metal Gods
    03. Heading Out To The Highway
    04. Judas Rising
    05. Starbreaker
    06. Victim Of Changes
    07. Never Satisfied
    08. Diamonds & Rust (Joan Baez cover)
    09. Prophecy
    10. Night Crawler
    11. Turbo Lover
    12. Beyond The Realms Of Death
    13. The Sentinel
    14. Blood Red Skies
    15. The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown) (Fleetwood Mac cover)
    16. Breaking The Law
    17. Drum Solo
    18. Painkiller

    19. The Hellion (taped intro) / Electric Eye

    Encore 2:

    20. Hell Bent For Leather
    21. You've Got Another Thing Comin'

    Encore 3:

    22. Living After Midnight

  • Van Halen Working on New Songs

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

All signs point not just to a full recovery and return to the road for Eddie Van Halen, but some forthcoming new music, as well. The guitarist, who was sidelined by a nasty case of diverticulitis last year, has posted a photo to Facebook of himself in the studio.
His son Wolfgang is promising fresh material, as well: "Oh, yeah, there's plenty of other ideas laying around," the younger Van Halen tells Billboard, "and some new stuff that we've been working on, too. You never know what'll happen."
Wolfgang Van Halen helped spark 2012′s long-awaited reunion between his dad and David Lee Roth by digging out some unreleased material from the Van Halen band's earliest days. Together with founding drummer Alex Van Halen, Wolfgang's uncle, the rejuvenated quartet produced 'A Different Kind of Truth,' Van Halen's first full-length studio project with Roth since '1984.'
Wolfgang has been touring with Tremonti, the solo band of Creed's frontman Mark Tremonti, while Van Halen took some time away. Now that its namesake leader is healthy again, the group is set for appearances at Australia's Stone Music Festival in April, through Japan in June and then at the Rock USA Festival in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this July.

In a recent interview, David Lee Roth made the following statement “We’re going to be playing Europe — probably 50, 60 shows outside of the States, starting at the end of this year, and then come back around through the US..,” Roth said. He also implied that the Wisconsin Rock USA festival is a one-off, and there wouldn’t be any other U.S. shows until next year.

  • Former Thin Lizzy Members, Black Star Riders to Release New Record in May

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Black Star Riders — the new band formed by Thin Lizzy’s Ricky Warwick (vocals), Scott Gorham (guitar), Damon Johnson (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso— will release their debut record, All Hell Breaks Loose, on May 28th in the U.S.tes:

Discussing the title of the new album, Warwick states, “I was watching a documentary about World War II bombers and saw the name painted on the side of one of the aircraft. The name just resonated with me and it seem to encapsulate the turmoil that we, as a society, are currently experiencing. The past few years have been such a wild ride and now with the release of the album, it sounded like a bad-ass album title that summed up what Black Star Riders is all about.”

The record will be released as a standard CD and also as a special-edition digipak featuring a bonus track, Right To Be Wrong, and a “making-of” DVD.

    Track listing:

    1. All Hell Breaks Loose
    2. Bound For Glory
    3. Kingdom Of The Lost
    4. Bloodshot
    5. Kissin’ The Ground
    6. Hey Judas
    7. Hoodoo Voodoo
    8. Valley Of The Stones
    9. Someday Salvation
    10. Before The War
    11. Blues Ain’t So Bad

  • Motley Crue Plans to Call it Quits After Next Record

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

In a recent interview with Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx, he indicated that the band’s existence is slowly winding down to a screeching halt.

“I wanna finish our movie (adaptation of Motley Crue’s New York Times bestselling collaborative autobiography The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band) and put out a new album,” he revealed before adding they will also release a soundtrack to the movie and then embark on “a farewell tour.” “We’ll be back in Australia and, ah, that’ll be it,” he said. “I can honorably say, ‘We did it our way and we’re never coming back’.”

Sixx said the split would be their final chapter and that he has no interest in resurrecting the band once it is over.

“It’s important that when you do a farewell tour that people understand that when you put a bullet in the back of the horse’s head, and it goes down, it’s not a plastic bullet it’s a fucking shotgun blast. You know, blow its f***** brains out, it’s never coming back. It has to (be that way),” he stressed. “It’s the only way I can look at myself in the mirror and do a farewell tour. That’s it. So when we take our final bow, it’s IT. I will cry. I cry thinking about it.”

Motley Crue have been raising musical hell for more than three decades and Sixx admits, “I love this band. I f****** spent my life doing this band. I’ve been doing this band longer than I’ve been doing anything else. And I’ve been in this band longer than I’ve known any woman, longer than I’ve known my children — only my family, and I have a closer relationship with my band than I have with my family, and a rockier relationship with my band than I’ve had with anybody in my family as well.

So it’s very emotional and I just think it’s important that we finish what we started and then, you know, it will be whatever it will be. It could be beautiful. It could be a beautiful ending! When you go and see a great movie — I’ll leave you with this: when you go and see a great f****** movie and it ends and you go, ‘F***!’ like, you walk out and you go, ‘That was amazing! That blew my mind!’ It’s not like, ‘That blew my mind and, um, maybe there’ll be a sequel to it’.”

  • New Jake E. Lee Music Due Later This year

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

After a long absence, it appears as though that former Ozzy and Badlands guitarist Jake E. Lee is poised to return and make new music. According to Michael Toney, author of the book “Tales from the Stage Vol 1,” Jake is currently in the studio recording new music for a record that is expected to be released later this year.

Jake’s new project will be called Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel and will feature Ronnie Mancuso (Beggars and Thieves) on bass and Jonas Fairley (Black Betty) on drums. While a permanent vocalist is yet to be announced, the album will include appearances by several guest vocalists, including Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Sass Jordan (S.U.N), and potentially original Iron Maiden front man Paul DiAnno.

According to Toney: ”The two new tracks that I have heard are very impressive, and are incredibly fresh sounding – but not really in the same family as [Jake's] work with Badlands or Ozzy. It’s still hard rock, but perhaps a bit more melodic.”

Michael Toney’s book Tales from the Stage Vol 1 features exclusive interviews with several artists and music industry insiders, including Tim “Ripper” Owens, Tracii Guns, Bruce Kulick, Herman Rarebell and Brian Tichy. Check it out HERE!
