  • Kid Rock Spreads Christmas Cheer in Detroit

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Kid Rock is once again giving back to those less fortunate in Detroit. This year he has purchased 1,200 $25 Meijer giftcards that he plans to distribute throughout the city as a Christmas present to people in need in his hometown.

The gift cards, which will be distributed through local radio stations in the area, will be good for redemption at any local Meijer store.  This is becoming an annual tradition for  Kid Rock.

Last year around Thanksgiving, Kid Rock donated 1,000 meals in the same way, and since the reaction was so great he has upped the amount to 1,200 this year.

Kid Rock recently completed a high profile underplay tour of the U.S. where, in association with a powerhouse group of local Detroit business people, more than $375,000 was donated to local charities via his Kid Rock Foundation. Sunday night, Kid Rock performed a special rendition of his current single "Care" at CNN's Heroes: An All-Star Tribute before heading up the road to Malibu, where he and his Twisted Brown Trucker Band performed for an intimate mix of fans and friends.

This is not the last charitable act Kid Rock has up his sleeve; a major announcement is being planned for early 2012 which will once again focus on the Motor City.

  • Jack Russell forms his own version of Great White

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Original Great White frontman Jack Russell is causing waves. The singer, who had been sidelined by illness, has announced that he is forming his own version of Great White.

The current version of Great White continued on without Jack, using Terry Ilous of XYZ as a replacement singer while Russell recovered from health issues. By all accounts, the agreement with Ilous on vocals was only temporary while Russell worked on regaining his health. The late Jani Lane and and current King Kobra vocalist Paul Shortino, both also filled in the vocal spot at different points in 2010.

Russell suddenly announced he was "coming back... with a brand new band." His version of the band will be billed as "Great White Featuring Jack Russell." Russell's version of Great White will feature guitarist Matthew Johnson, drummer Derrick Pontier, bassist Dario Seixas and guitarist Robby Lochner. The version of Great White with Terry Ilous on vocals also features longtime members Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie and Audie Desbrow.

Russell co-founded Great White in 1978. The bluesy hard rock band has released 11 studio records.  In 2003, the band made headlines when 100 people died at their show at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island, after the group's tour manager set off some pyrotechnics that led to a massive fire. The band's guitarist Ty Longley, who had been a member of the band for three years, was among the victims who perished in the fire.

Great White featuring Jack Russell will debut at the Pre-NAMM Jam January 14th in Southern California.
