  • Zakk Wylde "Bringing Metal To The Children"

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne & Black Label Society), has written the definitive handbook to all things heavy metal, as only he can. 'Bringing Metal To The Children', will be available April 10.

'Bringing Metal To The Children' is a handbook to all things Heavy Metal. This 'complete berzerker's guide to world tour domination' provides tips and tests for the true rocker -- as wild man Wylde invites all who dare onto the tour bus for brain-bursting tales of glory, debauchery, and general mayhem in the dangerous metal universe. With black and white photographs throughout and an eight page color insert, this 320 page hardcover book is a must have for all Black Label Society and metal fans.

As a twenty-five-year veteran of the Ozzy Osbourne band and Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde has managed not only to stay alive against all odds but has also survived numerous attacks on his life by members of his own band, his wife, his children, his manager, and even his dogs. Among deranged tales of onstage indecent exposure and booze-fueled destruction.

For the young Metal Loki, Wylde offers exclusive tips on how not to make it in the business, insights about planning your band's tour and outfitting the Black Vatican recording studio, plus more useful advice on how to set up a shooting range on a tour bus and how to survive a mosh pit.

  • Motorhead Frontman Warns Fans to Avoid The "Early Years" Box Set

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister is urging fans not to buy a new box set priced at more than $600.

Per Lemmy: "Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head, I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!" According to Kilmister "Motörhead have no control over what's done with these early songs, and don't want fans to think that the band is involved in putting out such a costly box set," the band said, washing its hands of the matter".

The collection in question, The Complete Early Years Box Set, includes all eight of the band's early records, as well as handful of singles and other rarities, such as posters and a photo book.

  • Black Sabbath Expected to Play One U.S Show...

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Black Sabbath will reportedly only play one show in America this year and it could happen sometime in August.

Currently, the band are working on a new studio record, they have written 15 new songs and things appear to be going well, without drummer Bill Ward.

As previously reported, Sabbath have had to cancel all their European dates because of guitarist Tony Iommi’s ongoing treatment for lymphoma.

So far, the only show they have scheduled is headlining the Download Festival on Sunday, June 10th. The remainder of the dates will become the Ozzy & Friends tour featuring former guitarist Zakk Wylde and and bassist Geezer Butler.

Joining Bolan and Hammersmith in the band are original members Scotti Hill (guitar) and Snake Sabo (guitar) along with Sebastian Bach's replacement Johnny Solinger (vocals).

  • After a one-off, The Black Sabbath Reunion Morphs into "Ozzy & Friends"

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Black Sabbath who late last year confirmed the recording of their first new record in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour have had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi's battle with lymphoma. At this time, Black Sabbath will perform only one show of this summer’s previously scheduled European tour. It will take place Sunday, June 10th at the U.K.’s Download Festival.

In an effort to not to let the promoters and fans down, Ozzy will now perform the majority of the previously scheduled Black Sabbath dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as Ozzy & Friends.

These Ozzy & Friends shows will feature appearances by “special guest” musicians including Geezer Butler (who will join Ozzy for a special Black Sabbath set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former Ozzy band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, Ozzy will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other “special guests” set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full
    list of dates, appearances below).

Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to
getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath continue to write and
record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album. More information about these dates and Black Sabbath’s recording and touring plans is forthcoming.

  • Quiet Riot 1983 US Festival Performance Headed to DVD...

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Shout! Factory has acquired rights to release audio and video recordings from the legendary US Festival. Among the initial offerings will be the release of Quiet Riot's performance, captured at 'Heavy Metal Day' on May 29, 1983.

Quiet Riot were the opening band of the day, hitting the stage at 12:10 PM in the afternoon to launch a day of entertainment that would feature performances from Motley Crue, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and the legendary headlining performance from Van Halen.

'Heavy Metal Day' set what was at the time a single day attendance record in the United States, attracting nearly 400,000 people — despite sweltering temperatures that topped 115 degrees.

Although highlights from the festival were broadcast on Showtime, this will be the first official release of Quiet Riot's full nine-song set, which found the band performing songs from their 'Metal Health' release, already well on its way to multi-platinum sales.

'Quiet Riot – Live At The US Festival, 1983′ will be available on March 27 as a two disc CD/DVD set and also as a digital download. Shout! Factory is expected to be rolling out additional US Festival releases in the future.

The US Festival was the brainchild of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who financed and organized both the festival and the related technology exposition, as well as the construction of a new outdoor venue in San Bernardino, California to host the event.

Although the US Festival's diverse lineup brought huge crowds in both 1982 and 1983, the enormous operating costs ultimately left the festival with huge losses each year. While not a financially successful endeavor, Wozniak, a huge music fan, did succeed in mounting one of the most memorable live music events ever.

  • 'Titans of Rock' tour featuring alumni from KISS, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Def Leppard & Others...

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Have you ever dreamed of seeing Guns N' Roses, KISS, Metallica, Motley Crue and Def Leppard on the same bill?

Well, this year you can! Sort of. As long as you're cool with only seeing individual members of the bands and you live in South America.

Dubbed the 'Titans of Rock' tour, the all-star event will feature contributions from a wide array of hard rock legends, including Gene Simmons (KISS), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Vince Neil (Motley Crue), Jason Newsted (Metallica), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Duff McKagan (GNR), Gilby Clarke (GNR), and Matt Sorum (GNR), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) and Ed Roland (Collective Soul).

Not surprisingly, Gene Simmons owns the trademark for the actual title "Titans of Rock." The phrase was registered in October of 2011.

While key details about the tour remain unknown, the 'Titans of Rock' will perform a two-week swing of South American countries (see below)

    Titans of Rock Tour dates:

    • April 19 – Lima, Peru
    • April 21 – Sao Luis, Brazil
    • April 22 – Sao Paulo, Brazil
    • April 24 – Paraguay
    • April 26 – Buenos Aires, Argentina
    • April 28 – Santiago, Chile
    • April 30 – Guatemala City, Guatemala
    • May 02 – San Jose, Costa Rica

Not unlike such classic rock-minded package tours as the Voices of Classic Rock or Rock and Pop Masters, the Titans of Rock tour seems like a great way to get plenty of bang for your buck (or peso) with hits by the artists who originally performed them.

What would you pay to see this lineup at a theater near you?
