  • King's X Frontman Dug Pinnick's New Record

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

dUg Pinnick, frontman for legendary hard rock trio King’s X, released his latest solo record, Naked, today.

    Check it out here:

Pinnick has been a pivotal figure in heavy music for over 30 years, most notably as the vocalist and bassist for the still-active King’s X, whose influence looms large over everything from the progressive metal movement (Dream Theater, et al) to the grunge scene – with Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament famously stating that “heavy music didn’t start in Seattle, it started in Katy, Texas, with King’s X” – and who are also one of the few bands in the history of rock ‘n’ roll to mark 25-plus years of playing together with the original lineup intact, with no signs of slowing down.

Since 1998, Pinnick has released two solo record under the moniker Poundhound and three others (including a collection of home demos featuring more than a dozen fan-favorite King’s X songs) under his own name. Additionally, Pinnick has joined forces with a who’s-who of veteran rockers – including Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Eric Gales, Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta, The Memorials), Bruce Fanklin (Trouble), Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Timothy Drury (The Eagles, Stevie Nicks), Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), Kip Winger (Winger), Living Colour (with whom he toured Europe as temporary vocalist in 2008), Gilby Clarke (Guns N’ Roses), Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, 24-7 Spyz, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol, Vince Neil), Tribe After Tribe, Carmine Appice, and many more – and young hotshots, including the Austin-based metal band RAZR13 (whose album was produced by RockArmy Records owner Paul Soroski and featured a guest appearance by Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera) guitarist Marzi Montazeri.

  • Slash 'Speechless' at Video of 7 Year Old Guitarist

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

We have a new addition to the growing collection of 'Really Talented Little Kids Playing Classic Rock' videos. Check out a seven-year-old girl playing Slash's guitar part on the Guns N' Roses classic 'Sweet Child O' Mine.'

Slash recieved the video from Leslie West (Mountain). "So cool. I'm speechless," the guitarist tweeted, while forwarding a link to an MSN piece about the girl. Her name is Zoe Thomson, and the clip was recorded three years ago, when she was only seven, but only posted on April 11. She is currently serving as the lead guitarist in a group called the Mini Band, which is comprised of similarly aged prodigies.

Thomson, now 10, has already become a bit of a sensation in her native UK, where last year she was the subject of a news story that featured members of Metallica praising the Mini Band while watching them play.

  • Ted Nugent Calls For The Public Hanging of Boston Bomber

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Ted Nugent has taken to his column to call for the public hanging of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the now-charged Boston Marathon bombers.

The column, called Time To Stretch Neck Of Jihadist Punk, was posted on the right wing website WND over the weekend.

Using his usual colorful language, Nugent refers to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his now-killed brother Tamerlan using the term “voodoo” 13 times in his article, and calls for “stretching their necks” three times.

In the piece, he laments that Tsarnaev will likely spent years in custody before being sentenced, “Justice is supposed to be swift. At least that’s how our Founding Fathers thought it should be,” speculating that, 150 years ago “he would have been swinging from an oak tree in Boston Common no longer than 60 days from the date of his arrest. That would be justice.”

Nugent predicts, “He probably won’t go to trial for more than a year due to court-sanctioned delays. Once he’s found guilty, he will be afforded any number of appeals that will take more years, possibly more than a decade. The young voodoo nut has got a long life in front of him, thanks to America’s screwed-up justice system.”

Nugent closes the article with, “My dream of real justice would be a July 4 celebration of stringing this son-of-a-b**** up in the Boston Common and letting the crows pick on his rotting flesh. There will be no swift justice for the Boston voodoo punk. He’s got a long life ahead of him. How pathetic.”

  • Ratt Frontman To Release Tell-All Autobiography in May

    Posted by Jon Rockin Rogo

Ratt frontman Stephen Pearcy’s autobiography, Sex, Drugs, Ratt & Roll: My Life In Rock, which chronicles Pearcy’s life from childhood to the formation of Ratt in the 1970's and the band’s rise to prominence in the Sunset Strip hair metal scene of the ’80's will be released on May 7th.

In Sex, Drugs, Ratt & Roll, Stephen shares how he was primed for a life of excess from a young age — his father died of a heroin overdose when he was 12, and by the age of 15, Stephen was himself a drug addict, a pill-popper and primary acid supplier to the city of San Diego. He also reveals:

How Ratt formed in the ’70's, their early gigs among rock and roll giants on the Sunset Strip, and what Pearcy was willing to do in order to make it big (involving a certain booking agent).

Over-the-top, surreal stories starring celeb friends Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Tommy Lee, and Drew Barrymore.

Explicit details of his relationships with hundreds of groupies and the complete debauchery of the pre-AIDS Sunset strip. Pearcy’s friendship with Ratt’s thrill-seeking guitarist Robbin Crosby, who became his partner in crime in all of Ratt’s wild adventures. Blunt sincerity about twenty-something years’ worth of alcohol and drug abuse, culminating in a crippling heroin addiction and rehab.

Sex, Drugs, Ratt & Roll contains all the tales of Pearcy’s seemingly ludicrous rock star excess — namely, the trashed hotel rooms, the hordes of groupies, and the flagrant drug abuse. In this tell-all, Stephen Pearcy finally lets music fans see behind the scenes into the lifestyle that was governed by rock stars of a certain era, and gives them a glimpse of just what you can get away with when you’re a hair metal star.
