    By Loudwire.com

Tool fans were disappointed to say the least when singer Maynard James Keenan announced that there would be no release from the band in 2013. The modern experimental legends have been working on a new album for some time, and drummer Danny Carey says, along with a bunch of other news, that a 2013 release is still planned.

When it comes to the upcoming Tool album, Carey stated that it is still planned to dropin 2013. “Sometime this year … that’s all I can say,” Carey tells TheRockFM about the record. “The sooner the better for us. We’re working everyday but you can never predict it, honestly. We’re really excited about it so I hope all the fans will be too.” Carey also reports that bassist Justin Chancellor has been the “main driving force” to get the album completed.

Carey also told the radio station that he plays drums on the soundtrack to the upcoming Superman film ‘Man of Steel.’ In addition, he adds that Tool have a massive amount of live material that may be released on CD or DVD form in the future. “We have tons of stuff recorded,” says Carey. “I hope we do make that happen one of these days. We have lots of video stuff too, we could do a DVD or two whenever we get around to it. We’re kind of trying to focus on the new thing now, so we’ll go back at some point and do it.”

In a separate interview with David Farrier, Carey spoke about an epic 20-minute piece being constructed for Tool’s next record. “We’re still – believe it or not! – still working on it,” the drummer says about the piece. “[Laughs] It’s like an ever-evolving thing, it’s probably going to turn into a thing that’s like, a big trilogy type of feel to it, sort of like ‘Disposition’ and ‘Intension’ and ‘Triad,’ like on the ‘Lateralus’ record or something. It will probably be over a 20-minute piece when it’s all finished, so it will be a good part of the record. We’re dealing with it in sections, but it’s coming together really well, we’re having lots of fun working on it, that’s for sure.”

Finally, Danny Carey revealed that he was, in fact, the mystery Tool member that sustained injuries from what was reported as a Vespa accident. “It’s been tough lately because I cracked four ribs,” Carey begins, “broke three of them on a motorcycle the other day, so I am kinda laid up at this point, it’s making it really painful to play. It’s not an easy thing to do. [Laughs] … it was just over in the San Fernando Valley, I was just turning to go on the freeway, and I think I hit some antifreeze or oil or something, and the wheels just slipped right out from under me, and I just hit the pavement really hard. [Laughs] … Yeah, I’m still in one piece anyway, but I don’t know how lucky I was the way I feel right now [Laughs]. It’s pretty painful, but some painkillers and some scotch will get you through it.”

Tool have also just announced a cluster of tour dates in Australia and New Zealand. Stay tuned for more news on the band’s upcoming record.

Tool 2013 Australia + New Zealand Tour Dates:

04/27 – Melbourne, AUS – Rod Laver Arena

    05/03 – Sydney, AUS – Allphones Arena

Disturbed and Device vocalist David Draiman isn't mad at you, but he does have a propensity for tweeting in all CAPS. In addition to the info you'll find on his music projects, Draiman is an avid news junkie, often tweeting about global issues. But it's not all serious, as the vocalist is quick to share inspirational messages and funny online memes, as well.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will definitely share his thoughts on music, whether it’s the band's own plans or his love of other artists. And it's obvious from his tweets that Flea is as versed on the classics as he is modern day acts. But what makes the bassist an interesting tweeter is his very vocal support and critiques of Los Angeles sports teams, including his beloved Lakers.

While Anthrax's Twitter site is quite active, it pays to follow guitarist Scott Ian's account as he's the band's most consistent tweeter and often has a lot going on beyond music. In addition to his Anthrax updates, you can find Ian tweeting about his love of comics, poker and horror films. He's also usually pretty good about answering his follower's questions, as well.

Dave Mustaine is one of the most outspoken rockers in the business, so what makes you think he'd be any less so on Twitter? The Megadeth frontman has embraced social media to keep fans up to date on his band perhaps as much as any artist in hard rock and metal. But he's also not one to hold back on the day-to-day activities of his life or his opinions of entertainment and world news.

Jane's Addiction and Camp Freddy guitarist Dave Navarro will share his love for music (his own as well as other artists), but you can also look for him to address animal rights issues, his favorite television shows and discussions about his 'Dark Matter' radio show. He's also one of the better artists when it comes to responding to his followers' questions.

Motley Crue and Sixx: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx will dish on both of his bands, but he's just as likely to talk about his love of photography, his music passions and connections garnered through his 'Sixx Sense' radio show. Also, on several occasions, he's used Twitter as a place of catharsis to share personal matters, past and present, with his thousands of followers.

He's begun sharing nuggets about his film production company, as well.

Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor is one of the more entertaining personalities in rock and it shines through on Twitter as well, where he's more than happy to joke around and answer questions from fans, share sports and entertainment picks, and yes, give updates on his projects. It's sometimes his unfiltered random thoughts that prove to be the most entertaining.

  • Maynard James Keenan Says Tool Will Not Release New Album in 2013

    Maynard
    By Loudwire.com

Fans who have been patiently waiting for Tool‘s next album will unfortunately have to hang in there a bit longer according to vocalist Maynard James Keenan. In a recent interview with Chile’s Radio Futuro, Keenan apparently stated that Tool will not be releasing a new album in 2013.

Tom Petty famously sang, “The waiting is the hardest part,” on his single ‘The Waiting’ in 1981, and Tool fans worldwide are currently blasting that classic track on repeat while cradling themselves in the fetal position. There are few groups that harness cult followings like Tool, which is why fans of the band have been rabid for new material since 2006; the year Tool released their most recent album, ’10,000 Days.’

With Tool’s album drought having lasted seven years, a new Tool disc was expected to drop in 2013, according to various sources. The other members of of the band have recently been working hard to write the album, although a reported Vespa accident recently brought the jam sessions to a brief halt. However, according to Maynard Keenan, there will be no new Tool album this year.

When asked by Radio Futuro if a new Tool album will be released soon, Keenan simply replied, “No new disc. Not this year … I have not written any songs. So no, there is nothing.”

Keenan has become infamous for screwing with the media. The singer played an April Fools prank in 2005, having revealed that he “found Jesus” and claiming that Tool were abandoning what would later become ’10,000 Days.’ Keenan has also peddled a book that doesn’t exist and once reported that the members of Tool were in critical condition after a bus accident, so whether or not you believe Keenan is up to your own judgement.

In the same Chilean interview, Keenan also batted down the possibility of a new A Perfect Circle album, citing his focus on Puscifer and APC guitarist Billy Howerdel’s dedication to Ashes Divide as to why an album is currently off the table. Puscifer’s upcoming EP ‘Donkey Punch the Night’ is set for a Feb. 19 release.

  • Halestom Brings The Rock To "Jimmy Kimmel Live" with "Love Bites" and "Freak Like Me"

    Halestorm

    By Loudwire.com

Halestorm got in a little late night action Tuesday (Jan. 29), performing on ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and sharing two of their favorite tracks for the studio audience. ‘Love Bites (So Do I)’ aired on the national television broadcast, while the band also performed their current single, ‘Freak Like Me,’ as a Web-only bonus. Both performances can be seen below.

Lzzy Hale, with her long hair pulled up for the evening, delivered her usual amount of energy and vitality on ‘Love Bites (So Do I).’ The track began with the combination of drummer Arejay Hale’s arms and hair flying during the hard-hitting intro, while Lzzy and guitarist Joe Hottinger traded some wicked licks.

As for the Web-only bonus performance, ‘Freak Like Me,’ Lzzy Hale and bassist Josh Smith brought a perfect vocal blend during the chorus and Arejay Hale got a little bit of camera time to show off some of his stick handling on the song. Lzzy also unleashed a fairly powerful blood-curdling scream during the track.

Halestorm are currently enjoying a respite from the road, but will head to Europe in March for a tour before returning to the States in April to play the ‘HardDrive Live‘ tour with headliners Bullet for My Valentine.

We’re used to advertisers going all out in their Super Bowl ads, and this year’s Mercedes spot doesn’t disappoint, offering up cameos from Willem Dafoe, Kate Upton, and Usher, all set to the soundtrack of the Rolling Stones‘ ‘Sympathy for the Devil.’

The Stones are no strangers to football’s biggest game — we listed them in our top five Super Bowl halftime show performances, and we’d wager that plenty of fans would rather see them returning for this year’s halftime too. This commercial is as close as we’ll come, but hey, look at the bright side — at least we don’t have to wait until Feb. 3 to see it.

  • Soundgarden Unveil "By Crooked Steps" Video Directed By Dave Grohl

    By Loudwire.com

Nothing says badass like a “gang,” but director Dave Grohl takes a little bit of a sting out of those troublemaking lads from Soundgarden by having them cruise the streets on Segways in the band’s latest video for ‘By Crooked Steps.’

Grohl, whose own band the Foo Fighters have had their fair share of offbeat and funny clips, puts his stamp on the clip with his own sense of humor. The musician-director has the Soundgarden bad boys park their Segways, stroll into a club and immediately confront the laptop DJ whose spinning tunes for those in attendance. The frightened DJ scurries away before Soundgarden take the stage and truly rock the audience with their plugged in instruments. But the DJ won’t be defeated as of yet, calling the cops on the Segway-riding toughs.

The band eventually eludes the cops and escapes the venue, but they’re not totally off the hook as a slow-speed police chase follows before they finally give up. It pays, however, to watch to the very end of the clip for a special guest cameo from a certain EDM superstar posing as the arresting officer.

Soundgarden are currently in the midst of their first North American tour of 2013, promoting the ‘King Animal’ album. They’ve also signed on to play the Rock on the Range festival in May.

With Shinedown and Three Days Grace co-headlining two legs of dates with special guests P.O.D., this was already expected to be a hot ticket. But with fans not knowing whether this is the end or a new beginning for Three Days Grace, the ticket becomes all that more intriguing.

Both Flyleaf and Drowning Pool have new vocalists fronting the group, and this North American trek will be one of the first opportunities to check out the new lineups. Stars in Stereo will serve as support.

2013 Rock on the Range Festival by Loudwire.com

The 2013 Rock on the Range lineup has been unveiled and it’s packed with must-see bands. Rock on the Range will celebrate its seventh year of festival madness with perhaps its best lineup to date. The three-day event will feature Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, Stone Sour, Lamb of God and many more.

The 2013 installment of the Rock on the Range festival will take place May 17-19 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Columbus Crew Stadium.

Korn will be welcoming former guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch to join them onstage. The band has already booked some dates with Head in Europe, but this is their first U.S. show of the year so far that will feature the axeman. “Head is back!!,” says Korn’s Jonathan Davis. “Rock on the Range is going to start it all off!!  Get ready, we are going to hit it hard!!”

Another band to pay close attention to for Rock on the Range is Lamb of God. Although LoG are confirmed for the festival, vocalist Randy Blythe is scheduled to appear in Czech court on Feb. 4 for his controversial manslaughter case. Depending on the outcome, there is a question of whether Lamb of God will indeed be able to remain on the bill.

Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains is excited about the band’s slot in this year’s Rock on the Range, saying, “We’re really looking forward to returning to Rock on the Range with a batch of brand new killer Alice tunes to play for everyone!” Additionally, Bush singer Gavin Rossdale offers, “Bush are thrilled to be playing Rock on the Range with such great bands. We look forward to seeing you all out there.”
